Questions

How do I read a guitar chord chart?

The vertical lines are the strings, low E on the left. Horizontal lines are frets. Dots show where to press, the number in each dot is the finger to use, O means play the string open and X means don't play it.

What's the difference between major, minor and 7th chords?

Major chords sound bright, minor chords sound darker because the third is a half step lower, and dominant 7th chords add a bluesy tension that pulls toward the next chord.

Why do some chords show several shapes?

Every chord can be played in more than one place on the neck. We show the most common shape first, then barre and higher-position options.
